Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, Bass, Ukulele

I have been studying music since 1993 and have become accomplished on acoustic and electric guitars, the mandolin family, banjo, bass, dulcimer, a little fiddle and various types of hand percussion. I have played all of these instruments professionally since 1997. With my studies I have formed my own theory which I can explain simply to students at any level. I place lots of value in starting beginners off with the right practice techniques and attitude toward playing along with helping the most advanced students realize new potentials of expressing themselves with music.

I have studied many genres of music including blues, jazz, classic and modern rock, bluegrass, folk, country, reggae, Celtic, gypsy swing, classical, and jam-band music which fuses all styles together. I teach how to practice, read, and fully understand the music that each student prefers. I also teach how to write music and improvise leads in any genre. I enjoy studying and transcribing material brought by students and then discussing each technique involved to bring each person ever closer to where they want to be.

My styles of playing guitar using both rhythm and lead techniques are flat picking, finger-picking, and some slide work with plenty of scales and chord shapes. On the mandolin I teach scales and chords with many rhythm and lead techniques. On the banjo I teach the three-finger style which includes the Scruggs style along with the melodic style plus chords and even scales. On bass I teach two-finger and flat-pick style as well as a little slap and pop with the thumb. On all instruments I teach theory, fingerboard mapping, and proper use of all features of the instrument including effects on electric instruments.

Currently I perform with two bands. The first is an acoustic rock group named Shane Meade and the Sound which performs in many places locally and all over the state. I play guitars and occasionally mandolin with this band. Check the store for recordings and performance information or go to www.Shanemeade.com. My second project is a bluegrass band in which I play mandolin and also some banjo. We are playing locally and will have information throughout the store.
