Voice, Piano, Guitar

Mezzo-soprano Mary Wyant, a native to Bartow, Florida, has had eight years of classical and contemporary voice experience, six years of guitar, and three years of piano study. She holds an A.A. in Vocal Music from Polk State College, and is currently a senior at the University of South Florida, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Music Education with an emphasis on voice. While at Polk State College, Mary was a member of the Chamber Choir, Women's Choir, and the exclusive Vocal Jazz Ensemble, which focused on pop, classic rock and a cappella singing. She currently sings with the USF Collegiate Singers and the USF Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. James Bass, and has also performed with the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay. Recent performances including appearing in Mozart's opera Cosė Fan Tutte with USF Opera, directed by Professors Carol Sparrow and Randolph Locke, Schubert's Mass in G, in which she appeared as the mezzo-soprano soloist, and as a member of the chorus in Vivaldi's Gloria, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, and Schoenberg's Friede Auf Erden. In addition, Ms. Wyant also had the privilege to travel and perform at the Capitol as a member of the PSC Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

Mary was recently inducted into Sigma Alpha Iota, a women's music fraternity, and is currently president of USF's collegiate chapter of Music Educators' National Conference (CMENC). Honors include a Music Talent Grant, Winter Haven Symphony Guild Award, PSC Arts Council Award, and the Merri Fenn Story Opera Award. Alongside her collegiate studies and honors, Mary is a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Bartow, and has sung in the adult choir there for ten years. She was the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Contemporary Christian band 6:33, which led the church's evening contemporary worship service from 2007-2010. Mary has also assisted and led the music portion of Vacation Bible School at FUMC for ten consecutive summers. She has studied with Mary Grace Gordon, and currently studies with Dr. Warren Jaworski.
