Summer can feel long.

The routines disappear, the days get hotter, and many families begin searching for meaningful ways to spend those long weeks between school years. While some students spend their summer relaxing, dozens of local young performers have spent theirs doing something remarkable.

For the past two weeks, students in rising 4th grade through completed 12th grade have been hard at work bringing 9 to 5 JR. to life on the Music Showcase stage. These talented young performers didn’t simply sign up for a camp – they auditioned for their roles, committed to rehearsals, learned choreography and music, built friendships, and worked together to create an incredible production.

Based on the beloved hit movie and Broadway musical, 9 to 5 JR. features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and tells the hilarious and inspiring story of Violet, Judy, and Doralee – three very different coworkers who unite to stand up to their overbearing boss and transform their workplace. Filled with humor, heart, and unforgettable songs, the story’s themes of friendship, courage, and empowerment continue to resonate today.

What makes this production especially exciting is the incredible age range of the cast. Students from elementary school through high school have come together, supporting one another while learning the value of teamwork, dedication, and confidence both on and off the stage.

Behind every costume change, every dance number, and every laugh from the audience are young performers who have spent their summer creating something meaningful. They have worked hard, taken risks, and grown as artists – and now they’re ready to share their work with our community.

As summer continues, consider spending an evening supporting local youth, local arts education, and the incredible students who have poured their hearts into this production.

Performances of 9 to 5 JR. take place June 25-28, 2026, with multiple performances available throughout the weekend.

Come laugh, cheer, and celebrate the hard work of these talented young performers. You may be surprised by just how much these students can accomplish when given a stage and the opportunity to shine.
